Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh's three-game winning streak was snapped by Mercyhurst by a score of 18-7 on a chilly evening at Vasco Field Tuesday. The Cavaliers (3-4, 0-1) were playing in their conference opener while the Lakers (4-1, 2-0) remained unbeaten in ECAC action.
The Cavs kept close through the majority of the first quarter as Alex Hudgens' goal put Walsh within one, but Mercyhurst went on a 5-0 run and took a 9-3 lead into halftime.
Goals by Bryan Crim and Nicholas Castorf in the first five minutes of the third brought the Cavs within four. However, another run by the Lakers ended the momentum the Maroon and Gold had built up.
Crim finished the day tied for the game-high three goals and an assist to lead Walsh's offense. Castorf finished with three points on two goals and an assists. Ryan Rafac led the team with four ground balls. John Arnold, Mark Guzik, and Crim each had three.
Mercyhurst's James Crowe scored three goals to pace the Lakers.
Walsh ends its four-game home stand 3-1 after wins over Roberts Wesleyan, Tusculum and North Greenville. The Cavs now hit the road for three games, the first of which comes up against Alderson Broaddus this Saturday in the Mountain State. Face-off with the Battlers is set for 1 p.m. in Philippi, West Virginia.
