Men's Lacrosse Match Win Mark With Victory Over Alderson-Broaddus

Box Score

(PHILIPPI, W.Va.) – Walsh defeated Alderson Broaddus 14-9 in men's lacrosse action to match a program-high for wins in a season. The Cavaliers improved to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the ECAC, while the Battlers dropped to 2-5 overall and are 0-2 in conference play.

The four wins matches the total set by the 2013-14 squad that finished 4-7. This is the fourth varsity season for the men's lacrosse team.

The Cavaliers came out on fire and dominated AB on both sides of the field with a 4-0 advantage in the first 15 minutes. That carried over into the second quarter as Nicholas Castorf scored his first goal of the game just over a minute into the period for a 5-0 lead.

The Battlers then started to live up to their nickname and answered with four unanswered goals to get back into the game. An unassisted goal by Alex Hudgens and a man-up goal by Bryan Crim on the assist from Castorf helped limit that momentum build as Walsh went into the halftime break up 7-5.

The second half started similar to the first as Walsh controlled Alderson Broaddus with a 4-1 third quarter. Collin Trankel and Ryan Martins each scored in the first 2:15 of play before the Battlers' Jonathan Carr scored on a man-up chance for the hosts.

Walsh's offense again heated up as Castorf scored a pair of goals to cap the third frame. The Cavs' run continued to the fourth as they opened the final period with the first two goals thanks to Ryan Martin and Benjamin Suchomma to finish off a 6-1 run to start the second half. It also gave the Maroon and Gold a seven-goal lead.

Castorf and Martin paced a balanced offense with three goals each. Castorf added two assists while Martin added on. Bryan Crim, Trankel and Hudgens all added a pair of goals.

Dylan Ciolino picked up the win in goal as he made seven saves on 28 shots faced. John Arnold also aided the defense with three caused turnovers and tied for game-high honors with six ground balls.

The Cavaliers will remain on the road for their next two contests, the first of which will be in Painesville, Ohio this against Lake Erie this Tuesday. Face-off with the Storm is set for 7 p.m.
