Box Score (PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – Facing its third nationally ranked top-10 opponent of the season, Walsh fell to No. 8 Lake Erie by a score of 15-8 at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium on Tuesday evening. The Cavaliers (4-5, 1-2) battled the Storm (5-2, 2-0) through most of the first half, but a strong LEC third quarter helped the hosts take control of the game.
The Cavaliers kept the Storm offense at bay early on and tied the game at 1-1 with Collin Trankel's goal with 8:37 left in the opening frame. Lake Erie scored two-straight after that, but Byan Crim put one past the keeper to put the score at 3-2 after the first.
The Storm again answered with two more scores before Alex Hudgens added a goal to make the score 5-3 with 5:02 left in the half. At that point, Lake Erie went on a 10-1 run that stretched into the fourth quarter to take control of the game.
Walsh scored the final four goals of the game, but ran out of time as the Storm held on for the win.
Hudgens had one of the finest games of his career as he finished with four goals to lead the Cavaliers. Ryan Martin and Benjamin Suchomma also added goals for the Maroon and Gold.
Defensively Mark Guzik was impressive as he caused four turnovers and picked up three ground balls to lead the Cavaliers. Ryan Rafac and Jake Selvage also recorded three ground balls for Walsh.
