Northwood Edges Walsh 5-3

(CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh battled Northwood close, but fell to visiting Northwood by a score of 5-3 at the Hall of Fame Courts. The Cavaliers are now even at 8-8 overall and 2-2 in the conference. The Timberwolves are now 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the GLIAC.

The Cavaliers started on top as they won two of the three doubles contests. Pablo Cabezon and Carlos Jaque took a narrow win at No. 2 doubles by a 9-8 count with a 7-3 tiebreaker. Heitor Adegas and Jonah Carter took home a win at third doubles by a score of 8-5.

Northwood then came from behind to win four of five singles matches with the final match unfinished. Vasiliy Vidmanov registered the final point with a marathon match at No. 2 singles. He won the first set 7-6 with a 7-3 tiebreaker and followed with another 7-6 win with a 7-5 tiebreaker.

Cabezon was close to getting Walsh another point, but lost 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).

The Cavaliers return to action against Tiffin this Saturday at 10 a.m.
