Cavs Take Down Tiffin In Fifth Place Match

(MIDLAND, Mich.) – Walsh concluded the regular season with a 5-2 victory over Tiffin in the fifth-place match of the GLIAC Tournament at the Greater Midland Tennis Center Saturday evening.

With the win, the sixth-seeded Cavaliers (12-12) avenged an earlier season loss to the fourth-seeded Dragons (14-14) and gives Walsh its best finish ever in the GLIAC.

Today started out better for the Maroon and Gold as they took a 2-1 advantage into singles play after wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Ross Whittaker and Vasiliy VIdmanov edged out Luis Ludena and Agustin Mangone at the top spot by an 8-6 margin.

Pablo Cabezon and Carlos Jaque score the second point at the second spot with an 8-3 victory over Justin Kopronica and Elio Lezama.

Vidmanov and Jaque made it a perfect day as they also won their singles matches. Vidmanov took down Ludena at first singles by a score of 6-2, 6-3 while Jaque was victorious over Toby Cutting with dual 6-3 sets. Rodrigo Garcia helped the Cavaliers clinch the match with a 6-4, 6-0 decision over Brandon Fruits.
