Cavaliers Clipped By No. 11 Seton Hill 11-9

Box Score

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Despite less than ideal conditions, Walsh gave No. 11 Seton Hill everything it had in an 11-9 defeat in ECAC action at Vasco Field on a snowy Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers' (4-8, 1-5) game against the Griffins (7-3, 2-2) was their fifth against a team currently ranked in the top 11 this season.

Seton Hill took a fast start and controlled the majority of the first quarter and appeared as if it would take a 4-0 lead into the second stanza. Benjamin Suchomma had other ideas as he found the back of the net exactly as time expired in the opening frame and helped turn momentum in the Cavaliers' favor and help them tie the game.

Bryan Crim scored a pair of goals sandwiched around a Griffin scores to make the score 5-3 before Walsh took advantage of a couple Seton Hill penalties. Nicholas Castorf scored a goal on the first man-up opportunity before Ryan Martin tied the game on the second. Both scores were assisted by Alex Hudgens.

After another Griffin goal, Hudgens scored with 28 seconds in the half to knot the score at 6-6 heading into the second half.

Hudgens scored again just under three minutes into the second half to give Walsh a 7-6 lead, but the Griffins answered with the next four scores to regain control of the game. Hudgens brought Walsh back with the next two scores, one of which came on a man-up opportunity, but Seton Hill iced the game with a final goal with 1:15 left.

Hudgens finished with four goals and two assists for six points on the day. Crim added two goals and an assist for three.

Defensively Walsh was led by Dean Almanzar with four ground balls and a caused turnover. Matthew Ragan added a pair of cause turnovers as well. Ryan Rafac was at .500 on the face-offs as he won 11-of-22 on the day with six ground balls. Dylan Ciolino made six saves on 31 shots faced between the pipes.

The Cavaliers will now make the trip out west to take on Lindenwood on Friday for their final road conference game of the season. They will stay in Missouri through the weekend and take on Rockhurst in a non-conference affair on Sunday.

Face-off with the Lions is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Friday.
