Cavs Fall 5-4 in Nailbiter To Tiffin

(CANTON, Ohio) – In its final home contest of the season, the Walsh men's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker to Tiffin by a count of 5-4 in GLIAC action at the Hall of Fame Courts on Saturday. The Cavaliers are now 8-9 overall on the season and 2-3 in GLIAC play. The Dragons improved to 11-9 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Walsh went down 2-1 after doubles play with its only point scored in the top spot as Ross Whittaker and Vasiliy Vidmanov scored an 8-1 win over Luis Ludena and Toby Cutting. The other two doubles contests were close, but the Dragons were able to take 8-6 and 8-5 wins at seconds and thirds, respectively.

In singles action, nothing was decided until the very final match. Heitor Adegas was in that competition at No. 6 singles and forced two tiebreakers against Tiffin's Victor Fernandes, but it wasn't enough as he fell 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4).

Vidmanov, Pablo Cabezon, and Carlos Jaque all tallied the points for Walsh in singles action. Vidmanov had little trouble at the No. 2 spot with a pair of 6-1 set wins over Elio Lezama Perez. Cabezon needed three sets but eventually defeated Agustin Mangone 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Jaque downed Toby Cutting 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 4 singles spot.

Walsh will head to former and future conference rival Cedarville for its next match this Tuesday. The Cavaliers will return to GLIAC action Saturday at Hillsdale.
