Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh men's soccer team put up a tough fight, but it wasn't enough against No. 11 Ohio Valley as the Cavaliers fell 3-1 Thursday evening. The Cavs fell to 5-7-1 overall and 4-6 in the conference on the season, while the Fighting Scots improved to 12-1-2 overall and remained unbeaten at 9-0-2 in the G-MAC.
OVU struck first in the 12th minute when Celso Riveros scored on an assist from Alexandre Horveno. The 1-0 score held up through halftime until Horveno assisted on another goal in the 61st minute when Nicolas Rodriguez found the back of the net.
The Cavaliers eventually got on the board after John Nestenborg scored on a penalty kick in the 68th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1. Unfortunately for Walsh, OVU answered a minute later when Riveros scored his second of the game on another Horveno assist.
Walsh had other opportunities in the game, but three shots were struck hard off the posts and crossbar. Ohio Valley had most of the offensive pressure in the game, however, as the visitors outshot Walsh 26-7.
The Cavaliers will return to action against long-time rival Cedarville on Saturday.
