Cavs Fall to Mercyhurst In G-MAC Opener

Box Score

(ERIE, Pa.) – Walsh was defeated by Mercyhurst by a score of 15-5 in its first contest as a member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) at Tullio Field Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers are 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference, while the Lakers improved to 5-1 and 2-0.

The Cavaliers opened the game up with a hot start and led the Lakers 3-2 after the first quarter. Bryan Crim put the Cavs on the board with a goal at the 7:52 mark to make the score 1-1. Benjamin Suchomma, who assisted on the goal, eventually gave Walsh the lead at 3-2 with a score with seven seconds remaining in the period after Crim's second goal tied the game at 2-2.

From there, Mercyhurst's defense halted any momentum Walsh created and kept the Cavs scoreless until the 11:44 mark of the third quarter when Crim scored his third and final goal down a man on an assist from Alex Hudgens.

Zach Macaluso tallied the final goal with 6:57 to go in the fourth.
