Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh men's lacrosse team won its first game of the season with an exciting 12-9 victory over G-MAC rival Alderson Broaddus on a warm Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers moved to 1-6 overall and are now 1-1 in the conference. The Battlers fell to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the G-MAC.
The quick shot of Bryan Crim helped the Maroon and Gold pull away as he scored all four of his goals at the start of the third quarter to give the Cavs a 9-3 lead with 7:12 left in the period. Alderson Broaddus added two goals, but a score by Benjamin Suchomma sandwiched between those two goals helped Walsh take a 10-5 advantage into the final period.
Suchomma scored again to start the fourth and Ryan Martin followed with a quick goal less than a minute later to put Walsh up 12-5. The Battlers scored the final four, but it wasn't enough as the Cavs held on for their first win.
In addition to Crim and Suchomma, Alex Hudgens and Kevin McMahon also had multiple goal games. Hudgens also added two assists for four points, while Suchomma added one for three.
Eli Eckerle was superb between the pipes and stopped nine shots on goal on 39 shots faced. Elsewhere on the defensive end, Mark Guzik caused three turnovers and picked up three ground balls. Suchomma led the team with four ground balls.
Walsh was excellent on face-offs as Ryan Rafac won 17-of-22 in his best game of the year.
The Cavs return to action on Tuesday when they host Lake Erie with a 7 p.m. start.
