Wayne State Hands Walsh First GLIAC Loss

(DETROIT, Mich.) – The Walsh men's tennis team dropped its first GLIAC contest of the season with a 7-2 defeat at the hands of Wayne State at the Multipurpose Indoor Facility on Saturday. The Cavaliers fall to 10-7 overall and 2-1 in the GLIAC. The Warriors are 4-7 and 1-0.

The Maroon and Gold took home wins at first doubles and first singles. Ross Whittaker and Felix Zimmermann defeated the duo of Ryan Carlson and Harvey Reed 8-3 at the top doubles spot. Vasily VIdmanov won a nail biter by the score of 7-6 (7-5), 6-4

The Cavaliers were close to taken three other matches but came up just short at No. 3 doubles, No. 2 singles, and No. 5 singles. Jonah Carter and Tim Bruin were edged by Mats Westkamp and Griffin Mertz 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.

Whittaker took the first set from Clement Charriere 6-3, but was defeated in the next two 6-4, 6-0 at second singles. Heitor Adegas was in a tight battle at the five spot, but lost 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 13-11.

Walsh now heads to Northwood to take on the Timberwolves tomorrow at 10 a.m.
