(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Dwight Van Dyke had the best game of any player in Walsh soccer history as he scored four goals and an assist for nine points in a 7-0 thrashing of Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. The win against the Panthers (0-6-1, 0-5-1) was also the biggest margin of victory for the Cavaliers (5-3-1, 4-2) since joining the NCAA. The last time Walsh scored that many goals was in a 15-0 victory over Fisher during the 2011 season.

The points mark broke the school record originally set Chris Collier back on October 12, 1974 when he scored four goals against Malone. He followed up and matched the points total against Malone the next season. Bob Jackson and Gary Barden matched the record with four goals against St. Vincent in 1976 and Ohio Dominican in 1977, respectively.

Despite the onslaught of scoring, Van Dyke wasn't involved in the scoring of Walsh's first goal of the game. That belonged to Tim Kohman on Nathan Kett's assists just 2:35 in. However Van Dyke followed up with his first goal just a short while after with a goal on Myles Cornwall's assist in the 22nd minute. He assisted on Jean Paul Ajala-Alexis' goal five minutes later to give the Cavs a 3-0 lead at the break.

As if that weren't enough, Van Dyke really went to work in the second half with a hat trick in the span of 11 minutes alone. He made the score 4-0 on a corner kick by Michael Saddler one-touched by Ajala-Alexis in the 59th minute, scored unassisted in the 66th, and capped the scoring in the 70th minute on assists from Cornwall and Bobby Tsirambidis. Sandwiched between that was another goal by Ajala-Alexis.

As if that weren't enough, the defense put up a clean sheet on the opposite end and limited the Panthers to just six shots with only one in the second half. Walsh outshot Kentucky Wesleyan 31-6 with Tom Jackson only needing to make one save in almost 70 minutes of action. Jon-Paul Della Pia came in for the final 20.

Walsh will now head to Painesville to take on the team that it beat to start the recent winning streak in Lake Erie. Kickoff against the Storm will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
