(WHEELING, W.Va.) – A strong second half rally wasn't enough as Walsh fell to Wheeling Jesuit 17-11 at Bishop Schmitt Field Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers (1-7, 1-2) outscored the Cardinals (3-4, 1-1) with a 9-3 blitz in the third quarter, but the hosts were able to pull away in the fourth.

Marcus Brown sparked the offense with a goal just 55 seconds into the second half to get the Cavalier offense moving. Maurice Kelly and Benjamin Suchomma followed with a pair of goals in the next five minutes to make the score 9-3.

After the Cardinals answered with a pair of goals, the Maroon and Gold reeled up six-straight to make it a two-goal game. Brown scored his second to lead the charge once again followed by Suchomma taking advantage of a Jesuit penalty with a man-up goal. He wasn't done as he scored two more after Kelly scored his second. Brown's third goal with 3:26 to go in the third then made the score 11-9.

The teams exchanged goals to end the frame and start the next with Brown once again making it a two-goal game at 12-10, but the Cardinals then put the game out of reach with five consecutive scores.

Jake Cieszynski was spectacular as the specialist with wins in 22 of the 30 faceoffs. As a result, he totaled a game-high 12 ground balls. Noah Ross came up with 13 saves on the day on 44 shots faced between the pipes.

Walsh will return to action against Chestnut Hill a week from today at a site yet to be determined.
