Cavaliers Overpower Senators In Road Finale

Box Score

(ELKINS, W.Va.) – In its best game of the season, Walsh recorded season-bests in goals scored and allowed in a 19-4 victory over Davis & Elkins at Nuttall Field on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers (2-10, 2-4) did so in a balanced style as 13 different players scored goals in the win over the Senators (0-10, 0-6).

The defense also got stronger as the game went on. Walsh allowed just two goals late in the first quarter which tied the game after scores by Kevin McMahon and Benjamin Suchomma, but allowed just one in the second and third before shutting out the Senators in the fourth.

Maurice Kelly was responsible for putting the Cavaliers back ahead after the small Senator rally with a pair of first quarter goals in the final minute despite the Cavaliers being down a man. He added a third to complete the hat trick early in the second quarter before Suchomma added his second just 26 seconds later.

Kelly led the offense with six points as he assisted on three more goals later in the fourth quarter. In addition to Suchomma, Grant Howard, Brent Mitchell, and McMahon also had multiple goal games.

McMahon also assisted on three goals for five points on the day. Frank Savena did the same to finish with four.

Jake Cieszysnki dominated on faceoffs with 19 wins in 25 attempts to help jump start the Cavalier attack. He added season-best 16 ground balls and scored a goal as well.

Even with the heavy offensive attack, the defense was also kept busy during the game. Goalkeeper Pat Finger was tested throughout, but made 16 saves, the most by the Cavs this season. He faced 30 shots overall on the day.

The Maroon and Gold now have a bit of a break, but will return to action on Saturday, April 28, for the regular season finale against Seton Hill. Face-off is scheduled for 11 a.m.
