Box Score NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Walsh Cavaliers men's lacrosse team fell to the Lake Erie College Storm 19-7 in a Great Midwest battle at Vasco Field on Wednesday (March 27) night.
Lake Erie scored the first four goals of the game over the first five minutes, taking a 4-0 lead. Walsh chipped away at the Storm with three straight goals in a five-minute span. Brian Apshago started the scoring before Kevin McMahon scored on an assist from Evan Bradley. With two minutes left in the first quarter, Sully Dowling made it 4-3 in favor of the Storm, assisted by Brent Mitchell. Lake Erie closed the quarter with a goal and a 5-3 lead.
One minute in, the Storm added a second goal but Marcus Brown answered within a minute for the Cavaliers. With under 13 minutes in the first half, Walsh trailed 6-4. The Storm ended the second quarter with eight goals, holding a 14-4 lead at the intermission.
The Storm scored the first four goals of the third quarter, opening the lead to 18-4 with just over five minutes left. Bradley broke up the Storm streak with his first goal of the night. The Cavaliers trailed 18-5 going to the fourth quarter.
Jake Creagh opened the final quarter with an unassisted goal four minutes in. Lake Erie scored their final goal of the night with 5:46 left. McMahon added his second goal, assisted by Apshago with just under three minutes to go. Walsh fell 19-7 to the Storm.
McMahon finished with two goals as five other players notched goals in the game.
Jake Cieszynski had five groundballs, a team-high. Marcus Brown had four groundballs while Mitchell picked up three. Jake Selvage, Noah Ross and Dowling each had two groundballs.
The Cavaliers will host Wilmington on Saturday (March 30) at 1:00 PM in the nonconference finale.
