Cavaliers Split Home Weekend Slate

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh Cavaliers men's tennis team played two home matches at the North Canton Racquet Club. On Friday (Feb. 7), the Cavaliers hosted the Lewis Flyers, ranked sixth in the Midwest Region before they faced the Wayne State Warriors on Saturday (Feb. 8). The Warriors are ranked fourth in the Midwest Region. 

The Cavaliers narrowly defeated the Flyers 4-3 but lost 6-1 to the Warriors. 

Friday vs. Lewis (W 4-3)

Clemens Wagner and Filipp Kulynych helped Walsh clinch the doubles point with a 6-3 win in second doubles. Guilherme Carniero and Pedro Campos gave the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead with a 6-1 third doubles victory. 

Jakbo Riglewski opened the first singles slot with a 7-5, 6-3 win before Lewis won the second, third and fourth singles matches. Kulynych did not concede a game as he was a 6-0, 6-0 winner in fifth singles. Carniero closed the match with another 6-0, 6-0 win in sixth singles.

Saturday vs. Wayne State (L 6-1)

Riglewski upset the fourth-ranked singles player in the Midwest Region in first singles. He rallied to defeat Niklas Karcz 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 for Walsh's only point of the afternoon. 

The Cavaliers head north next weekend to face Davenport on Saturday (Feb. 15) and Grand Valley State on Sunday (Feb. 16).
