Cavaliers Top Storm for First Time in Program History

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh Cavaliers men's lacrosse team crossed off a mark in the program's history on Wednesday (April 7). The Cavaliers defeated the Lake Erie College Storm at Larry Staudt Field for the first time in the program's history, 13-11. With the win, Walsh has won three straight times for the first time since 2017 and is now 3-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Lake Erie was receiving votes in the latest USILA Top 20 Poll.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Colby Bowman started the scoring with a goal less than a minute into the game on an assist from Marcus Brown. One minute later, Lake Erie answered and tied the game at one. After Sully Dowling broke the tie, the Storm once again tied the game at the halfway point of the first period. Sully Dowling and Tyler Wascovich each scored goals in the final 6:30 as Walsh led 4-2 after one quarter.
  • Lake Erie cut the lead to 4-3 with a goal just seven seconds into the second quarter. Jake Cieszynski started a Walsh 3-0 run with an unassisted goal nine seconds later. Over the next seven minutes, Kevin McMahon and Evan Bradley both scored goals with one assist from Bowman as Walsh led 7-3 with 7:15 left before halftime. Lake Erie scored two goals within two minutes as they pulled within 7-5. Brown closed the half with his first goal of the night with 1:56 left in the second quarter. Walsh took an 8-5 lead into halftime. 
  • Lake Erie outscored the Cavaliers 6-2 in the third quarter as the Cavaliers got a pair of goals from Brown. After Brown's second goal with 8:20 left making it 10-7, Lake Erie went on a 4-0 run as they ended the quarter up 11-10. The Storm scored with less than a second left in the third quarter to take the first lead of the night. 
  • Dowling knotted the game at 11 with 12:57 left in the game and he gave the Cavaliers the lead three minutes later. Brown added an insurance goal with 3:03 remaining as Walsh won 13-11.

  • Dawson Kindall had five points on four goals and one assist to lead Lake Erie.
  • Nathan Quinn tallied three points on one goal and two assists.
  • Jackman Schooley scored twice for the Storm.

  • Walsh won the categories of ground balls (30-27), clears (21-16) and saves (21-12)
  • Lake Erie ended the game as the leader in the following categories: shots (47-44) and faceoffs (16-11)

  • Walsh will travel to #3 Mercyhurst on Saturday (April 10) for a battle of G-MAC unbeaten conference records. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.
