Cavs come up short to #5 Seton Hill on senior night

NORTH CANTON, OH- Walsh came up short nationally-ranked Seton Hill University Saturday (May 1st) in their third meeting this season. The Cavaliers were outscored by a score of 14-8.

Records: Walsh 5-7 (4-2), Seton Hill 10-1 (5-1)

The Cavaliers struck first as Marcus Brown scored the first goal of the game to put Walsh up 1-0. The Griffins went on to score five additional goals before Brown scored again to make the score 5-2. Seton Hill's Dan Rupert ended the first quarter with a goal to extend the Griffin lead 6-2 at the end of the first quarter. 

Seton Hill remained dominant on offense as they outscored Walsh 6-2 to end the half. Marcus Brown and Sully Dowling both added goals for Walsh to cut Seton Hill's lead 12-4 heading into the third quarter. 

The Cavalier defense, led by goalie Patrick Cuddihy, prevented Seton Hill from scoring for the entire third quarter. Walsh forced Seton Hill to six turnovers while picking up a total of 10 groundballs, compared to the Griffin's three. Marcus Brown remained hot on offense as he scored his fourth goal of the game with assist by Brent Mitchell to put the Cavs within seven. 

Walsh outscored Seton Hill 3-2 in the fourth quarter, but it would not be enough as the Griffins won 14-8. Marcus Brown, Colby Bowman, and Evan Stertz added to the Cavalier score in the fourth quarter. 

FOR THE CAVS

  • Marcus Brown led all-scores at five goals on the day
  • Kevin McMahon led the team in assists at three, pushing him 100 career points (54 goals and 46 assists)
  • Kyle Lacey picked up five groundballs while causing four turnovers
  • Patrick Cuddihy tabbed 13 saves in goal
  • The Cavalier defense forced the Griffins to 20 turnovers

  • Ryan Manbeck led the Griffins in goals at four
  • Seton Hill won 19-27 faceoffs
  • Logan Gray picked up a game high 12 groundballs

Walsh will face Seton Hill for the fourth time this season in the G-MAC conference semi-finals Wednesday, May 5th in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
