NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh Cavaliers men's tennis team split the matches over the weekend at North Canton Racquet Club.
Walsh fell 4-3 to Lewis on Friday (Feb. 25) as the Cavaliers won three singles matches. Dawson Drummond prevailed in a three-set battle at fifth singles while Pedro Campos was a straight set winner at sixth singles. In the first singles match, Jakob Riglewski won 6-4, 6-0 and became the program's all-time leader in wins at the first singles position. Riglewski won his 57th match, surpassing Walsh head coach Bryan Whittaker who held the record for 30 years.
"Records are meant to be broken and it was an honor and privilege to coach Jake the past four years," shared Walsh head coach Bryan Whittaker after Friday's match. "He is truly a remarkable young man on and off the court and I could not be more pleased that it was him that broke my record."
On Saturday (Feb. 26), Walsh won three singles matches and two doubles contests as the contest was played to a 4-1 final. Riglewski combined with Alex Medina Puigmarti for a 6-1 first doubles win before P. Campos and Drummond were 7-5 winners in second doubles. Riglewski, Luis Hernandez Ceballos and Drummond were all two-set winners.
