NORTH CANTON, Ohio - For the beginning of the Spring 2022 season, the Walsh Cavaliers men's tennis program dispatched two PSAC foes in the opening weekend of action at the North Canton Racquet Club. Walsh rallied for a 4-3 win over Edinboro on Saturday (Feb. 5) before taking care of Mercyhurst in a 5-2 victory on Sunday (Feb. 6).
Walsh trailed 3-1 against Edinboro after the doubles contests and the first three singles bouts as Dawson Drummond accounted for the lone point (at the time) at fourth singles. Jakob Riglewski made it 3-2 with a straight set win in the first singles position. At third singles, Blas Ruiz was trailing 4-0 in the third set before he won six straight games to take the set and the match. Ruiz tied the contest at 3-3 with the sixth singles match to decide the afternoon's result. Alex Medina Puigmarti clinched the win for the Cavaliers with a two set win as Walsh won 4-3 to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Sunday saw Walsh avenge losing the doubles point with the Cavaliers winning five of the six singles bouts for a 5-2 win over Mercyhurst.
