Cavaliers Battle Mercyhurst in G-MAC Semifinal, 20-11

ERIE, Pa. - For the 2022 Great Midwest Men's Lacrosse Semifinal, the Walsh Cavaliers had to face the top seeded Mercyhurst Lakers on Wednesday (May 4) afternoon at Saxon Stadium.

Walsh threw some first half punches at the top seeded Lakers but fell 20-11 in the semifinal. 

Evan Bradley started the scoring 83 seconds into the game with a goal from Issac Stertz. Nearly four minutes later, Mercyhurst tied the game at one. In a two minute period, Walsh tallied three straight goals to take a 4-1 lead with 4:30 left in the first period. Tosh Pazuik scored twice with I. Stertz scoring the third goal while Bradley assisted on two goals and Colby Bowman added an assist. The Lakers fired back with five straight goals before Evan Stertz stopped the run at the end of the first quarter. Marcus Brown assisted on E. Stertz's goal as Mercyhurst led 6-5 after the first quarter. 

Pazuik opened the second period with a goal less than a minute in to knot the score up at six. After Mercyhurst took the 7-6 lead, Bradley followed with an equalizer from Aidan Martinez. The Lakers scored four of the final five goals of the first half, sandwiched around a Brown goal. Mercyhurst led 11-8 at halftime. 

Brown scored first in the third quarter, cutting the lead to two but the Lakers went on a 6-0 run that carried over into the fourth quarter. Pazuik scored his fourth goal of the game with 12:55 left to stop the run and make the score 17-10. After three more Laker goals, Bowman notched the final goal of the day with 14 seconds left. 

Pazuik led the Cavaliers with four goals scored. Bradley scored twice and assisted on two goals for a grand total of four points. Brown ended with three points on two goals and one assist. Bowman and I. Stertz had two points total. 

Kyle Lacey had three groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers. The Stertz brothers had two groundballs each. 

Patrick Cuddihy made 24 saves on 44 shots on goal with three groundballs picked up. 

Walsh ended the season with a 4-10 record.
