Box Score (CANTON, Ohio) There were plenty of heroes as Walsh put together its first two-game win streak since 2011 with a 31-23 non-conference win over visiting Glenville State College (4-6) at Fawcett Stadium. The win improves Walsh to 4-6, and gives them their first four-win season since 2011 when they finished 5-6. The Cavs have a chance to equal that finish when they host fourth ranked Ferris State University (10-0, 9-0) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at 12pm at Fawcett Stadium next Saturday in the season finale. The game will be broadcast live on WNPQ FM 95.9.
Walsh opened the scoring with a 38-yard Michael Dudics field goal on the first possession of the game. The field goal capped a 10-play, 54-yard drive.
The Cavs then took a 10-0 first quarter lead when Anthony Schrock caught a 16-yard scoring pass from Jason Fracassa with 1:16 left.
Glenville State answered with a ten-point second quarter to knot the game at 10-all at the half. The final 2:03 of the half featured three interceptions, with the final one setting up a Glenville touchdown with 12 seconds to go in the half.
Walsh regained the lead at 7:35 of the third quarter when Aaron Male scored on a nine-yard run. The score was set-up by a Jamaris Brown fumble recovery and six-yard return to the Glenville nine-yard line.
The Pioneers would return the favor, and knot the game at 17-all at 2:15 of the third on a 12-yard run by Tevin Drake.
Walsh would score 13 seconds later as Brown brought the kick-off back 88 yards for a score to put the Cavs back on top 24-17 heading into the fourth period.
Glenville answered early in the fourth quarter when Dante Roberts connected with Dante Absher on a slant for a 16-yard TD. Glenville's try for the point after was blocked by Cameron Trudell, keeping the Cavs infront 24-23.
Walsh's final score was set-up by another Brown's interception at the Walsh 26-yard line with 7:12 to play. The Cavs then marched 72 yards in six plays, and tacked on the final score when Male broke loose on a 43-yard run.
Brown would then pick-off his third pass of the day on the next possession to seal the win for the Cavs.
Brown finished with six tackles, a fumble recovery and three interceptions. He is the first player since Darryl Lyons in 2002 to intercept three passes in a single game to tie a school record. He also returned four kicks for 150 yards, with an 88-yard TD.
Fracassa completed 16-22 passes for 209 yards. Schrock caught eight passes for 123 yards, and Jerald Robinson five passes for 51 yards.
The Cavs rushed for 139 yards, with 112 belonging to Male.
The Cavs' defense broke-up five passes, with three interceptions and seven tackles for a loss. Cameron Trudell led Walsh with nine tackles and Pat White had eight.
Walsh was 8-13 on third down conversions.
