Cavs Can't Overcome Early Deficit

Box Score

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – A slow start hurt Walsh as it fell to Baldwin-Wallace by a score of 13-10 on a rainy Wednesday evening at Vasco Field. The Cavaliers (0-2) did well to recover, but couldn't get over the hump the Yellow Jackets (3-2) caused with an early lead.

Maria Nobile (Fr., Westerville, OH/Olentangy Orange) was an important cog in the wheel that kept Walsh in the game as she scored the first four goals for the Cavaliers and tied the game at 4-4 with 9:00 left in the first half. Baldwin-Wallace responded with three consecutive goals, however, and didn't allow the score to be tied the rest of the game.

Nobile finished the game with a game-high five goals. She also did well defensively with three ground balls and a caused turnover. Ivy Meloy (Sr., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/HS) and Steffi Zepp (Fr., Dublin, OH/Dublin Coffman) each added two goals. Tia Tyler (So., Columbus, OH/St. Francis DeSales) made 14 saves on 35 shots faced between the pipes.

Walsh will return to action in a rescheduled game against Lourdes on Friday at 7 p.m. The two schools were originally supposed to meet last Wednesday before weather postponed the contest.
