Cavs Take Two From Malone

Box Score 1

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh swept rival Malone in two close and exciting games by scores of 5-3 and 8-7 on a beautiful sunny Tuesday afternoon. The Cavaliers improve to 15-10 overall and 5-3 in the conference, while the Pioneers drop to 8-10-1 overall and 0-4 in the GLIAC The Cavaliers went down early in both games, but used big innings both times to come back and win.

In the opening game, a three-run fourth inning put the Cavs up 5-3 and they held on for the win. Walsh tied the game on a single by Anna Anderson (So., Wadsworth, OH/HS) through the left side. Riley Kiesling (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) was pinch running and scored from second on the play. The Cavs later took the lead on a two-RBI single up the middle by Chelsy Testa (Sr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) that scored Anderson and Abby Reusser (Fr., Orrbille, OH/HS).

Casi Rohr (Jr., Massillon, OH/Perry/Toledo) was once again strong in the circle with her eighth win of the season. She gave up three runs, all unearned, on four hits with eight strikeouts against three walks in the complete game.

The nightcap offered more fireworks by both teams as it went down to the last inning. With Walsh up 7-4 heading into the sixth, Malone rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the frame. The Cavs avoided extra innings as Marisa Bondoni (So., Alliance, OH/HS) scored the go ahead run. She reached on a walk and was able to move over on a pair of sacrifice bunts before a single by Anna Fach (So., Massillon, OH/Perry/John Carroll) allowed her to cross the plate.

On top of that, Bondoni arguably had the best day of anyone as she hit her first and second home runs of the season in the second game. Overall she went a combined 4-of-6 with five RBI and three runs scored. Jenna Head (Fr., Mantua, OH/Crestwood) also had a strong day as she too went 4-of-6 with three runs scored

While Bondoni started, Quartni Whited (Fr., Louisville, OH/HS) picked up the win to improve to 2-1 after she pitched the last 1.2 innings in relief.
