Cavs Split With Hillsdale On Senior Day

Box Score 1

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Senior Day may have not gone exactly the way Walsh wanted it to, but the Cavaliers made sure they ended it the right way with a win against Hillsdale. The Cavs (25-14, 13-7) lost the first game to the Chargers (12-16, 6-12) 3-1, but rebounded to take the nightcap 6-5.

Game 1 started off in a good way as Marissa Bondoni (So., Alliance, OH/HS)put Walsh up early with a two-out solo home run to left field. It was her team-best fourth homer of the season. The lead held up until the fifth inning when Hillsdale tied the game on an RBI single to center field. The Chargers then pushed ahead with a pair of runs in the sixth.

Casi Rohr (Jr., Massillon, OH/Perry/Toledo) pitched the complete game and fell to 14-9 on the year. She gave up three runs on eight hits while she struck out six batters against one walk.

Another home run, this time from Jenna Head (Fr., Mantua, OH/Crestwood) sparked Walsh in Game 2 as she tied the game at 1-1 with her round trip in the second inning. The Cavs added three in the fourth frame to go up 4-1. Anna Anderson (So., Wadsworth, OH/HS) helped spark that rally with an RBI on a bunt that she stretched out into a double after second base was left uncovered. Head was able to score on the play to put Walsh up 2-1. Chelsy Testa (Sr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) followed up with a single that scored Riley Kiesling (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover/Findlay). Anderson was able to score on the same play after a throwing error by the first baseman.

The Cavs picked up two much needed insurance runs in the sixth. Anderson scored to make the game 5-1 she advanced home in an attempt to get Testa out at second base on a double. Testa later scored on a triple by Sam Troxell (Jr., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/HS/YSU).

The two runs held up as Hillsdale made a run in the sixth with four runs on five hits. Walsh changed pitchers twice with Rohr coming back in to pick up her first save of the year. Bondoni picked up the win to improve to 7-2 on the season.

Walsh will be back in action tomorrow with their final regularly scheduled home games against Findlay. The twinbill is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
