Cavs Fall Short At Lewis

(PLAINFIELD, Ill.) – Walsh was unable to pull out the victory as it fell 6-3 to Lewis in a Midwest regional match Monday evening. The Cavaliers dropped to 5-3 while the Flyers improved to 2-0.

Lewis took an early 2-1 lead after doubles action with wins in the top two courts. Jonah Carter (Fr., Maumee, OH/St. John's Jesuit) and Vasily Vidmanov (Fr., Prague, Czech Republic/Russian Embassy School) posted the only win for the Cavs in paired action with an 8-4 win at third doubles.

In singles play, Iagos Lucca (So., Caxias du Sul, Brazil/Colegio La Salle Caxias) and Rodrigo Garcia (So., Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Cesec Clemente Faria) picked up the other points for Walsh. Lucca won at fifth singles 6-2, 6-1 while Garcia won in the sixth spot 6-2, 6-4. Ross Whittaker (So., Massillon, OH/Lake) had an opportunity to pick up a fourth point for Walsh, but fell in three sets 7-5, 1-6, 4-6.

The Cavs will return to action against another pair of GLVC teams this weekend. Walsh will play at Indianapolis on Friday before playing Rockhurst on Saturday on Indianapolis' courts.
