(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – In its makeshift home opener, Walsh took advantage to defeat Notre Dame (Ohio) 16-10 in non-conference action at Vasco Field. The Cavaliers (1-2) and Falcons (0-2) were originally scheduled to play in Lyndhurst on Tuesday, but remnants of recent inclement weather forced a reschedule and relocation of the game.

The Cavaliers scored the game's opening goal as Emma Armour (Fr., Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Catholic) took the assist from Aly Jajack (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) just under two minutes into the game. But over the next 17 minutes, the Falcons took control of the game with three consecutive goals.

Walsh eventually got back on the board on another pair of goals from Armour on assists from Maria Nobile (So., Westerville, OH/Olentangy Orange) and Becca Heicher (So., Commerce Twp., MI/Hilliard Darby). The Cavs then took the lead despite being down a player on a yellow card as Heicher scored on a free position shot with 5:30 left in the first half.

Notre Dame tied it up, but Walsh scored three of the final four goals in the half to go into the break 7-5.

In the second half, the Cavs hit a hot streak as they scored six-straight goals in the 10 minutes to go up 13-5. The Falcons' offense then started to pick up, but by that time it was too late as Walsh began to take time off the clock and added three more goals.

Lane Brunkala (Fr., Mentor, OH/HS) scored a team-best four goals off the bench to pace the Cavs. Armour and Jajack both finished with three goals and an assist each to also have four points. Jajack's and Walsh's final goal came on a man-up opportunity.

Tia Tyler (Jr., Columbus, OH/St. Francis DeSales) was once again strong in goal as she made 10 saves on 24 shots faced.

The Cavs will return to action this Wednesday when they host Hiram. First draw is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Vasco Field.
