Dominant Singles Play Leads Walsh Over Lake State

(SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.) - Walsh evened up both its overall record and conference record with a 7-2 victory at Lake Superior State on Sunday. The Cavaliers (9-9, 2-2) had to come from behind to beat the Lakers (2-11, 0-4), but dominated with a sweep in singles play.

Vasiliy Vidmanov (Fr., Prague, Czech Republic/Russian Embassy School) and Jonah Carter (Fr., Maumee, OH/St. John's Jesuit) were responsible for the only point in doubles play as the duo scored an 8-6 win in the third spot.

Vidmanov picked up a second point at second singles with a 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6-0) victory over Jake Prime. Pablo Cabezon (Jr., Santander, Spain/Calasanz Collegue) won at first singles 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) over Mateusz Izycki.

Ross Whittaker (So., Massillon, OH/Lake), Carlos Jaque (Jr., Chijuayante/Lycee Charles de Gaulle), Iagos Lucca (So., Caxias du Sul, Brazil/Colegio La Salle Caxias), and Heitor Adegas (Fr., Londrina, Brazil/Colegio Marista de Londrina) all picked up wins in straight sets in third through sixth singles, respectively.

The Cavaliers now gear up for a match at Ohio Dominican this Saturday. First serve with the Panthers is set for 10 a.m.
