Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Snowy weather didn't cool the spirits of Walsh's women's lacrosse team as it defeated Calvin by a score of 12-7 at Vasco Field Friday evening. The Cavaliers improved to 3-4 with the win while the Knights dropped to 2-5.
After a slow start by both teams, the Cavs finally reached the scoring column on an unassisted strike by Aly Jajack (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) with 22:31 left to go in the first half. Just over a minute later, Emma Armour (Fr., Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Catholic) gave Walsh a 2-0 lead thanks to an assists from Sarah McCormick (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson).
Calvin then scored its first goal of the game, but Walsh answered with a 5-0 run to go up 7-1 as Amanda Hodel (Fr., Cincinnati, OH/Lakota West) scored a pair of goals to start and cap the run. Calvin added another goal just before the half to make the score 7-2.
In the second half, the Knights made a comeback attempt with three of the first four goals in the frame to cut the deficit to three at 8-5. Walsh was able to close out the game thanks to three more goals by Jajack to ice the game.
Jajack finished with five points on four goals and an assist on the game. Armour and Maria Nobile (So., Westerville, OH/Olentangy Orange) had three on one goal and two assists. Nobile was impressive all over the field as she came up with seven ground balls, five draw controls, and caused four turnovers.
Tia Tyler (Jr., Columbus, OH/St. Francis DeSales) picked up the win between the pipes as she stopped 15 shots on target on 26 shots faced.
Calvin had three players score two goals to lead the team with Emily Cefaratti pacing the team with five points on two goals and one assist.
The Cavs return to action in a couple days when they host Lourdes. The opening draw is scheduled for 2 p.m.
