Rohr Near Perfect In No-Hitter Against Ferris State

Box Score 1

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh swept Ferris State by scores of 5-0 and 9-6 in a doubleheader on a sunny Monday afternoon. The Cavs improve to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference while the Bulldogs dropped to 9-23 and 2-2 in the conference.

In game one, Casi Rohr (Sr., Massillon, OH/Perry) threw one of the finest games of her career with a no-hitter of Ferris State. She struck out 17 of 21 batters faced. The only thing that prevented her from a perfect game was a hit batter in the fifth inning. That batter left early to allow Rohr to face only 21 batters. She improved to 5-3 on the season with the victory.

In total, the Bulldogs only put three balls in play: a pop foul out to the catcher, a ground out to first, and a fly out to left field.

All five of the Cavliers' runs came in the second inning as the hosts batted around the lineup. The rally started after Sam Troxell (Sr., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/Youngstown State) reached on an error with two runners on. Abby Reusser (So., Orrville, OH/HS) scored on second on the play.

That opened up the proverbial flood gates as Anna Fach (Sr., Massillon, OH/Perry/John Carroll), Troxell, Marissa Bondoni (Jr., Alliance, OH/HS), and Nikki Newman (So., North Royalton, OH/HS) all made the trip around the base paths. Kendra Moore (So., North Ridgeville, OH/HS) provide the big hit of the frame with a 2-RBI triple.

In the second game, Walsh opened up the game with a 5-0 lead after the first two innings. The Bulldogs bit back with a two-run home run in the third and a solo run in the fourth to cut the deficit to 5-3.

Walsh then added to its lead with back-to-back home runs. Bondoni helped her own cause as she came on in relief in the fourth with a three-run shot over the left field fence in the sixth. Jenna Head (So., Mantua, OH/Crestwood) followed with a solo bomb to center.

The Bulldogs came up with another three runs in their final at-bat, but it wasn't enough as Bondoni struck out the final two batters to seal the win and improve to 2-0 on the season. Head finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored.

Walsh is back in action tomorrow as the Cavs are set to play a twin bill against Lake Erie at home. First pitch is currently scheduled for 3 p.m.
