Walsh Wins Last Pair In Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

(CLERMONT, Fla.) – Walsh closed out its spring break games the Sunshine State with a pair of wins over Lewis and Cedarville. The Cavaliers (5-3) defeated the Flyers (6-4) 5-4 in eight innings before they defeated the Yellow Jackets (2-6) 7-3.

In the opener, Samantha Troxell (Sr., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/HS/YSU) scored the game-winning run after an error on the pitcher during Jenna Head's (So., Mantua, OH/Crestwood) at-bat. Troxell was placed on second at the beginning of the frame for extra-inning procedures during spring break games. Nikki Newman (So., North Royalton, OH/HS) moved her to third on a sacrifice bunt.

Walsh came from behind in the game on two separate occasions. After Lewis was up 1-0, Anna Anderson (Jr., Wadsworth, OH/HS) homered to tie the game in the bottom of the third. Troxell followed up with a go-ahead run in similar fashion to the game-winner on an error.

After Lewis scored three in the top of the fifth, the Cavs tied it up at 4-4 thanks to an RBI double by Marissa Bondoni that scored Troxell and a sacrifice fly by Reagan Rito (So., Beloit, OH/West Branch) that scored Bondoni.

Casi Rohr (Sr., Canton, OH/Perry) picked up the win as pitched all eight frames and allowed four runs, three earned, on eight hits with four strikeouts against two walks.

Against Cedarville, a steady offensive attack aided in the 7-3 win. The Cavs scored single runs in the first and third, and after the Jackets added three in the third, Walsh answered with three in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Olivia Pifer (Fr., Loveland, OH/HS) hit in the first run on a single to center in the first. Head followed with a solo home run in the third. Bondoni then provided a three-run shot in the fourth. Kendra Moore (So., North Ridgeville, OH/HS) and Nikki Newman (So., North Royalton, OH/HS) then took advantage of an error to score in the fifth.

Rohr picked up the win after she came on to pitch the last 4.2 innings in relief. She allowed just four hits and struck out three and walked two. Rohr is now 3-2 on the season.

The Cavs now hit the road to Missouri where they will play Missouri-St. Louis in a twin bill on Friday. They will remain there and play William Jewell at the same site on Saturday.
