Box Score 1 (UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.) Walsh (14-7, 9-4) and Saginaw Valley State (16-15, 6-4) split a GLIAC double header today. The Cavs won the opener 3-2, but lost the nightcap 8-4. The Cavs are at Ohio Dominican University on Tuesday and home to Ashland University on Wednesday in a pair of GLIAC double headers.
Walsh scored runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take the opener 3-2. After SVSU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, Walsh tied the game in the top of the fourth on a Abby Reusser (So., Orrville, OH / HS) single to center. Walsh took the lead with two runs in the fifth. Nikki Newman's (So., North Royalton, OH / HS) single scored Sam Troxell (Sr., Cuyahoga Falls, OH / HS) with the go-ahead run, and Jenna Head's (So., Mantua, OH / Crestwood) double to right scored Newman to give the Cavs a 3-2 lead. Walsh starter Casi Rohr (Sr., Massillon, OH / Perry) made the three runs stand up in picking up her tenth win of the season agaisnt only four losses. Rohr scattered four hits and fanned nine. Newman and Head each had two hits for the Cavs.
Saginaw earned the split by winning game two 8-4. The Cardinals took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second. Walsh came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning on Jo Nicodemus' (So., Cuyahoga Falls, OH / Archbishop Hoban) single, and a wild pitch. Saginaw would answer with a three-run fifth. Walsh closed to within two runs at 6-4 on Danni Murtaugh's (Fr., Dover, OH / HS) bases loaded two-out single in the fifth. SVSU however got the runs right back with two unearned runs in the sixth.
