Box Score 1 (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh dropped a pair of games against rival Ashland in an important GLIAC twin bill by scores of 1-0 and 2-1 Wednesday afternoon. The Cavaliers are now 16-9 overall and 11-6 in conference play. The Eagles improved to 27-5 overall and 12-4 in the GLIAC.
The opener was mostly a pitchers' duel as the teams combined for 7 hits. Ashland took the lead on in the top of the third when Taylor Menhart double to left center to score Ally Farrah.
Casi Rohr (Sr., Massillon, OH/Perry/Toledo) dropped to 12-6 on the season. She gave up one run, unearned, on four hits with six strikeouts against one walk in the complete game.
Ashland's Sarah Alley had a strong game in her own right as she went six innings and allowed three hits before Brittany Flanigan came on in relief in the final inning to get the save.
Walsh had an opportunity to tie in its final at-bat, but Reagan Rito (So., Beloit, OH/West Branch) was called out on a close play at first that prevented the tying run from scoring and ended the game.
In the night cap, Walsh narrowly lost another close by one run. Ashland struck first once again with a pair of runs on the bottom of the second. Walsh scored its only run when Anna Anderson (Jr., Wadsworth, OH/HS) scored on a single by Nikki Newman (So., North Royalton, OH/HS) down the first base line.
Marissa Bondoni (Jr., Alliance, OH/HS) pitched the second game and took the loss to fall to 2-1 on the season.
The Cavs are back in action tomorrow in their final home double-header of the year when they take on Notre Dame College in non-conference action.
