(FINDLAY, Ohio) - Fifth-seeded Walsh (23-15) won their first game at the double-elimination Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Softball Championships 2-1 over fourth-seeded Grand Valley State University (31-14) this morning at Iriti Field.

Marissa Bondoni (Jr., Alliance, OH / HS) gave the Cavs a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning when she hit a solo homerun down the left field line. It was Bondoni's fourth homer of the season.

The Cavs added a second run in the sixth when Kendra Moore (So., North Ridgeville, OH / HS) singled through the left side to score Nikki Newman (So., North Royalton, OH / HS).

Bondoni, Moore and Sam Troxell (Sr., Cuyahoga Falls, OH / HS / Youngstown State) each had two hits.

The rest was left to Casi Rohr (Sr., Massillon, OH / Perry / Toledo), who won her 17th game of the season. Rohr allowed only a run in the sixth inning, while scattering eight hits. She fanned nine and walked two. It was her 19th complete game of the season.

Rohr shined once again in the winner's bracket game against Wayne State (39-17-1) as the Cavs and Warriors faced off in a pitchers' duel. Unfortunately for Walsh, the top-seeded Warriors won in extra innings 1-0.

A fly ball to left field just went over the head of Reagan Rito (So., Beloit, OH/West Branch) that allowed a runner from second to score after the relay was not in time. Rohr took the loss to drop to 17-9 despite giving up just the one run on six hits with five strikeouts against two walks.

Walsh remains alive in the GLIAC Championships and will play Saginaw Valley State in the consolation bracket tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
