Men's Tennis Edged By Wooster 5-4

(WOOSTER, Ohio) – The Walsh men's tennis team dropped a close contest to the College of Wooster by a score of 5-4 at the D.J. Hard Tennis Courts. The Cavaliers are now 1-1 on the year while the Fighting Scots were playing in their first match of the season.

The Cavs opened up the contest as they dropped two of the three doubles matches. The one win came at the second spot as Jonah Carter (So., Maumee, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) and Christian Henderson (Sr., St. Paris, Ohio/Lehman Catholic) defeated their opponents 8-3.

Singles action was split as Walsh took the top two singles matches and sixth singles. Henderson went undefeated on the day as he recorded the clean sheet against his opponent at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-0. Pablo Cabezon (Sr., Santander, Spain/Calasanz Collegue) had the most exciting match of the day as he won at first singles in three sets. The first set went to Wooster's Titas Bera 6-3. Cabezon rebounded to win the second set 7-6 with a 7-4 tiebreaker. He then had little trouble in the third set with a 6-2 decision.

Carlos Jaque (Sr., Chijuayante/Lycee Charles de Gaulle) also won in three sets after he lost the first set 6-4. He came back with a 6-4 win in the second set and a 6-1 win in the third set.

Walsh now gears up the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament. It starts this Saturday and runs through Sunday at Grand Valley State University.
