Football Falls On The Road at NMU

(MARQUETTE, Mich.) – Walsh fell to Northern Michigan by a score of 54-14 in GLIAC action in the Superior Dome on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers drop to 0-5 overall and in the GLIAC while the Wildcats improved to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Northern Michigan jumped out to an early lead and led 13-0 after one quarter of play. It wasn't until late in the opening half that Walsh lit up the scoreboard when Emmitt Reed reached the end zone on a four-yard pass from Mitchell Ault. That capped an 11-play, 74-yard drive to make the score 30-7 with 24 seconds to go in the second.

The Cavaliers' other score came with 2:46 left in the third as Riley Arvantis pounded the ball over the goal line from two yards out that capped another long 11-play, 68-yard drive.

Walsh was outgained by a 452-273 margin on the day. Mitchell Ault connected on the majority of his passes as he was 25-of-35 for 168 yards and a score. Kalvin Gordon rushed for 47 yards on six carries for a 7.8 yard average.

Defensively Nick King led the team with 10 tackles, his third double-digit game of the year.

Walsh returns to action a week from today as it hosts Tiffin. Kickoff is scheduled for noon at North Canton Memorial Stadium.
