Cavaliers Claw Past Lakers 5-4

(ERIE, Pa.) – Walsh picked up a thrilling 5-4 victory over Mercyhurst in a non-conference match at the Pennbriar Athletic Club on Wednesday. The Cavaliers and Lakers are both now even on the season at 3-3.

The win was also important to the Cavaliers as Mercyhurst is currently the No. 3 team in the Atlantic Region.

The man of the match was Heitor Adegas who won both his singles and doubles competitions. With the match tied at 4-4, Adegas gave the Cavs the victory with a 7-5, 6-2 decision at No. 6 singles over Dusan Cerny. Adegas paired with Jonah Carter at No. 3 doubles and won 8-2 to tie the match at 1-1.

Pablo Cabezon and Carlos Jaque gave the Cavs a 2-1 advantage after they won the No. 2 doubles match 8-6. Cabezon also helped the Cavs take a 3-1 lead as he finished his opponent in singles action the fastest with a 6-1, 6-1 score.

Vasily Vidmanov provided Walsh's other point with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win at first singles.

The Cavaliers are now off until spring break when they head to the Sunshine State. Walsh will return to action against Bloomfield in Melbourne, Florida.
