Box Score 2 (CLERMONT, Fla.) – Walsh fell in a pair of games against Cedarville and Mount Olive by scores of 9-5 and 8-0, respectively, at Hancock Park this afternoon. The Cavaliers are now 4-9 on the season. The Yellow Jackets improved to 4-8, while the Trojans stood at 11-12 after their game with Walsh.
The Cavs took on former and future conference rival Cedarville in their first game of the day. Walsh gave up six runs in the bottom of the second and were forced to play catch-up the rest of the way. Danni Murtaugh gave the Cavs life in the top of the third with a three-run homer to left field that scored Marissa Bondoni and Reagan Rito, but the Yellow Jackets answered with another run in the bottom half of the inning and two more in the fourth to make the score 9-3.
Walsh's final two runs came in the top of the fifth. Nikki Newman doubled to left center to bring in the first run as Mariah Rock made her way around the bases. An error helped the second run score as Jenna Head scored after a dropped fly ball by the second baseman.
Olivia Pifer took the loss to fall to 3-5 on the season. She struck out five batters in the game.
In the second game, the Cavaliers' bats were quiet as they managed just three hits in the shutout.
Walsh heads into its penultimate day of spring break competition with another pair of games on Friday. The Cavaliers will first take on Southwest Minnesota State at 1 p.m. before closing the day with Sioux Falls right after at 3.
