(CANTON, Ohio)  - Walsh had little trouble in its conference and home opener as it defeated Michigan Tech by a score of 8-1 at the Hall of Fame Courts Saturday morning. The Cavaliers even its overall record at 5-5. The Huskies, who also opened up GLIAC play today, fell to 3-5.

The Cavs started off the day with a sweep of the Huskies in doubles action. Ross Whittaker and Vasiliy Vidmanov won the No. 1 doubles contest by a score of 8-5 over Mario Neto and Robin Duhnsen in the closest match of the section. The No. 2 team of Pablo Cabezon and Carlos Jaque as well as the No. 3 team of Heitor Adegas and Jonah Carter won by scores of 8-4.

In singles action, Whittaker made it a perfect day with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Neto at the top singles spot. Cabezone followed with a win at No. 3 by identical 6-2 scores over Built Yumuang. Jaque defeated Nick Kremkow 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.

Rodrigo Garcia and Adegas capped off the match with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Garcia defeated Ricardo Paes in the closest match over the overall contest 7-6, 6-4 with a 7-5 tiebreaker in the first set. Adegas defeated Jacob Prochnow 6-0, 7-5 at the No. 6 position.

The Cavaliers will look to remain unbeaten in GLIAC play as they host Lake Superior State Sunday morning at 8 a.m.
