Box Score 1 (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – A pair of shutouts occurred in softball action with Walsh and Saginaw Valley splitting a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers (10-15, 1-3) won the opening game 1-0 while the Cardinals (16-6, 2-2) took the second 6-0.
In the opening game, the Cavaliers plated the lone run in the bottom of the second. Kendra Moore brought in the run as Abbey Yaugher scored on a single through the right side. Yaugher initially got on base with a lead-off single through the left side to start the inning.
As the score suggests, it was a defensively sound game. The Cavaliers' three hits all came during that second inning while the Cardinals only registered two on Olivia Pifer's strong performance. She went the distance and struck out six to improve to 6-7 on the season.
The second game went to Saginaw Valley after the Cardinals scored their six runs across the final three innings.
Anna Anderson registered two hits in the game and went 3-for-5 on the day.
The Cavs return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Painesville to take on Lake Erie in a twin bill. First pitch with the storm is slated for 3 p.m.
