Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh got back into the win column with an 18-8 victory over visiting Urusline in non-conference action at Vasco Field Wednesday evening. The Cavaliers (3-3) used a 6-0 run late in the first half and into the second to take control over the Arrows (3-5).
The run was sparked by Lane Brunkala who scored to put Walsh up 6-3 with 9:16 to go in the first quarter. It came within a minute of an Ursuline score that kept the Arrows within striking distance. After that, Walsh's defense kept the Arrows at bay and scoreless for nearly 13 minutes of in-game action.
Amanda Hodel, Sarah McCormick, Aly Jajack and Brunkala all scored in the final five minutes of the first half to take a 10-3 lead into halftime. Brunkala capped the run with another goal 1:15 into the second half for an 11-3 lead.
Ursuline attempted a rally with the next two scores, but Jajack and Brunkala added scores to put Walsh up 13-5 and started a 6-1 run by the Cavaliers.
Brunkala had quite the day as she finished with seven goals to match her season-high. Jajack also matched a season-best with four goals on the day. She added an assist to finish with five points. McCormick and Emma Armour added two goals each.
Defensively Mikaela Faus earned the win in goal. She made five saves in 47:29 of action and allowed six goals. Meghan Skrypka played the rest of the way and made two saves.
Sarah Dankowski came up with four ground balls to lead the team. Maria Nobile was also instrumental in giving the Cavaliers possession with seven draw controls.
Walsh returns to conference action as it hosts McKendree this Friday. First draw is set for 4 p.m.
