Box Score 2 (MINNEOLA, Fla.) – Walsh split a pair of games with a win against Edinboro before a loss against Wayne State College of Nebraska in the nightcap.
In the first of two games Monday, Walsh defeated Edinboro 3-2 at the Minneola Complex in the morning. The Cavaliers improved their record to 4-4 with the win while the Fighting Scots fell to 1-2.
The Maroon and Gold scored all three runs in the top of the second to take a 3-1 lead. Kesley Putman provided the go-ahead hit with a double to left field that scored Abbey Yaugher and Jordan Monnot who led off the inning with a pair of singles to right. Reagan Rito followed up with a line drive up the middle to bring Putman around to score.
Edinboro threatened in the bottom of the frame with the bases loaded, but only scored one run on a walk, but Ryan Kuula struck out the next batter to end the inning and get out of the jam.
Olivia Pifer came on in relief the next inning and went the rest of the way to get the win and improve to 3-2 on the season. She was masterful in the circle as she struck out 10 of the 17 batters she faced.
Putman, Marissa Bondoni and Monnot all had three hits in the game. Jenna Head added two.
Against the Wildcats, the Cavaliers were limited to just five hits on offense. Two of them came from the bat of Jenna Head, one of which was a double. Pifer started the game and took the loss to fall to 3-3 on the year. She struck out four batters.
