(CHARLESTON, W.Va.) – It was a great start to the season for the Walsh women's lacrosse team as it defeated Charleston on the road 18-6 at Laidley Field on Wednesday evening. The Cavaliers reeled off seven-straight goals to start the game in a route of the Golden Eagles (1-4).

Lane Brunkala gave the Cavs a quick lead with the first two goals of the game. It was the start of a career day for her as she ended the game with seven scores on just eight shots. Aly Jajack was also impressive as she finished with four goals on the night, three of which were scored in Walsh's opening run. She also added four assists for a game-high eight points.

Charleston then scored a pair of goals to cut the deficit to five, but Walsh answered with the next five goals that stretched into the second half and was never really threatened the rest of the way.

Sarah McCormick and Becky Parker both added two goals and an assist. Emma Armour also tallied multiple points with one goal and three assists.

Mikaela Faus picked up the win between the pipes and came up with 13 saves on 23 shots faced. She also gave the Golden Eagles trouble as she caused five turnovers and picked up two ground balls. Sam Paulson added four caused turnovers.

McCormick also aided tremendously in giving the Cavaliers more possessions with 10 draw control wins and five ground balls. Maria Nobile added four draw control wins and two ground balls.

The Cavaliers return to action against Notre Dame College for their home opener this Tuesday. First draw with the Falcons is scheduled for 4 p.m.
