Box Score 1 (MIDLAND, Mich.) – The Walsh softball team was swept by Northwood by scores of 1-0 in eight innings and 8-2 in regulation on a sunny afternoon at Fisher Stadium Sunday. The Cavaliers fall to 18-23 overall and 9-11 in the GLIAC while the Timberwolves evened their record at 16-16 overall and 7-9 in the conference.
Olivia Pifer pitched a gem in the opener as she gave up the one run on seven hits with nine strikeouts against one walk in 7.2 innings of work. She struck out 12 on the day after she added five in relief in the bottom end of the double header. The Cavalier bats were quiet with just four hits in the opener.
The offense picked up for both teams in the second game, but the Cavs couldn't overcome a 7-0 lead Northwood built over the first four innings.
Kathleen Walsh provided the only two runs for the Cavs when she smashed a pitch over the fence for a home run that also scored Jenna Head.
The Cavaliers return home to host Tiffin this Wednesday for a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
