Box Score 1 (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh softball team battled to a split with Hillsdale to kick off another eight-game home stand Saturday afternoon. The Chargers (11-5, 6-2) took the opener 5-3 before the Cavaliers (12-17, 3-5) rebounded for a 3-2 victory in the second.
The Cavaliers used a late go-ahead run for the win in game two as Rebekah Hoffee scored on a sacrifice fly by Annie Dehnke in the top of the seventh. Hoffee pinch ran for Abbey Yaugher who led off the frame with a double to center field.
Walsh also scored the first run of the game as Marissa Bondoni's suicide squeeze bunt allowed Alaina Manor to score. After Hillsdale tied the game in the bottom of the third, Jenna Head went yard for her third home run of the season.
Olivia Pifer rebounded from a loss in game one to record the win in game two after she came on in relief. She didn't allow a run and gave up just two hits with three strike outs against one walk in two innings of work.
Including her strikeouts in the opener, Pifer had nine on the day. She is now 8-8 on the season.
In the first game, Walsh answered Hillsdale's offense in the first and third innings, but the Chargers scored two in the fourth and held on for the win. Riley Kiesling scored the Cavs' first run on a wild pitch. Yaugher doubled in Head and Bondoni for the other two runs in the third.
The Cavaliers will return to action tomorrow with another conference twin bill against Findlay. First pitch with the Oilers is scheduled for 12 p.m.
