Box Score 1 (ALLENDALE, Mich.) – The season came to a close today as Walsh was swept by Grand Valley State by scores of 5-1 and 7-3 in GLIAC action Saturday. The Cavaliers end the campaign at 18-29 overall and 9-17 in the conference.
The Lakers will move ahead to the conference tournament with a mark of 34-8 overall and 19-5 within the league.
In the opener, Grand Valley jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Walsh scored its lone run in the top of the sixth with Abbey Yaugher singled up the middle to score Riley Kiesling. The Lakers added an insurance run in the bottom of the frame to set up the final score.
Olivia Pifer pitched another strong game as she struck out seven batters on the day. She finishes the season with 173 strikeouts, fifth-most in program history for a single season and third in the GLIAC this season.
In the finale, the Lakers again took an early 3-0 lead before the Cavs got on the board with Anna Anderson's double to left center that scored Abby Reusser and Nikki Newman.
Grand Valley added three more runs over the next two innings before Reusser scored the final run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Kiesling in the seventh.
