Softball Splits With Oilers

Box Score 1

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Twelve was a key number in Sunday's doubleheader between Walsh and Findlay as the Oilers won game one 6-3 in 12 innings before the Cavaliers won the second 12-0 in five.

The second game featured Walsh's (13-18, 4-6) finest offensive output of the season. The Cavaliers pounded out 14 hits and scored multiple runs in three of the five frames.

It didn't take long for the scoring to start as three runs plated in the second inning for the Cavs. Kendra Moore brought in the first two with a single up the middle to score Jenna Head and Abbey Yaugher. In the next at-bat, Abby Reusser singled in Kendra Moore. In the next inning, Jenna Head made the score 4-0 with a bases-loaded walk.

Four runs were scored in the fourth as the fourth occurred on a passed ball that allowed Anna Anderson to score. Marissa Bondoni followed up with a single up the middle to score Nikki Newman and Alaina Manor. After a pitching change, Danni Murtaugh doubled down the left field line to bring in Bondoni.

The fifth frame saw four more runs for the Cavaliers. Anderson singled up the middle to score Reusser to start the final rally. After a single by Manor, the Cavaliers pulled the double steal that allowed Anderson to score. Later in the inning, Annie Dehnke doubled up the middle to bring in Newman and Manor.

Almost lost in the shuffle was the impressive pitching performance of Shelbi Gregg. She went the distance with a one-hit shutout.

In the opening game, Findlay exploded for four runs in the 12th inning to take the lead. Walsh answered as Nikki Newman scored on a sacrifice fly by Anna Anderson, but couldn't build upon the momentum.

Walsh scored its first run in the fifth inning to tie the game as Annie Dehnke hit in Anderson on a fielder's choice. The Cavs added a second run in the 10th with international tiebreaker rules in effect as Anderson scored again on a suicide squeeze play to extend the game.

Olivia Pifer took the tough-luck loss. Only one of the six runs were earned as she went the distance and struck out 14 batters.

The Cavaliers will return to action against Ohio Dominican this Wednesday. First pitch with the Panthers is scheduled for 3 p.m.
