(CLERMONT, Fla.) – The Walsh softball team split its only true doubleheader of its spring break with a 5-3 loss and a 3-1 win against future conference rival Trevecca Nazarene. The Cavaliers are now 4-7 on the season while the Trojans move to 8-7.

In the nightcap, Olivia Pifer pitched a gem with seven strikeouts and allowed just one unearned run on four hits in the complete game. She moved to 3-4 on the season with the win.

She picked up support with single runs in the first, fourth, and seventh innings. Kesley Putman put the Cavs on the board in the first frame after taking advantage of an error. Nikki Newman plated the second run as Kendra Moore scored on a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth.

The Trojans made the score 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth, but Walsh answered with an insurance run in the seventh when Abbey Yaugher singled to right field to score Newman.

In the opener, Walsh carried a 3-1 lead into the fifth before Trevecca scored two in both the fifth and seventh for the win.

Jenna Head homered in the first while Moore and Abby Reusser recorded RBIs in the fourth.

The Cavs return to action tomorrow bright and early with an 8 a.m. contest against former and future conference rival Cedarville. They will follow with a game against Missouri-St. Louis.
