(UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.) – The Walsh football team started its three-week road stretch with a 28-0 defeat at Saginaw Valley State Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers fall to 0-2 on the season while the Cardinals improved to 2-0.

The Cavs held SVSU scoreless for most of the first half, but the Cardinals scored a pair of touchdowns late to take a 14-0 lead into halftime. The first came on a short 2-yard run with 4:20 before the break. Saginaw added a second on a 25-yard touchdown pass one second before the end of the half.

The Cardinals added touchdowns in both the third and fourth quarters to round out the scoring.

The Walsh defense did well in forcing four fumbles and recovering all of them, but the offense was stymied and limited with opportunities.

Nick Sturgill and Dylan Garver each added 11 tackles to lead the defense.

Next up for Walsh will be Division I opponent Jacksonville next Saturday. Kickoff with the Dolphins is currently scheduled for 1 p.m.
