Nationally-ranked Mercyhurst Too Much For Walsh

(ERIE, Pa.) – The Walsh men's tennis team faced a tough Mercyhurst squad in non-conference regional action, but unfortunately the Cavaliers were shutout 9-0. The Cavs dropped to 6-10 overall, while the Lakers, ranked No. 49 in the nation, improved to 12-1.

The Cavaliers were quite competitive in a few of the matches and forced tiebreakers in three pairings. The first came at third doubles where Filipp Kulynych and Guilherme Carneiro fell 9-8 with a 7-4 tiebreaker.

Carneiro also saw a tiebreaker in his sixth singles contest against Luka Veselic. Carneiro fell 7-6 with a 7-3 tiebreaker in the first set, but came back to win the second 6-1. In the third set tiebreaker, Carneiro was close to pulling off the win, but fell 11-9.

Vasily Vidmanov also needed a third set breaker. He won the first set 6-4 against Nenad Terzic, but fell in the final two sets.

The Cavs now head to the Mountain State to take on Davis & Elkins in G-MAC action. That match will take place tomorrow with a time yet to be determined.
